In partnership with the American Red Cross, ACCGov is organizing a temporary cold weather shelter in response to anticipated dangerous weather the next few days that will pose a severe threat to the safety of our unsheltered homeless and other vulnerable populations. In order to ensure this shelter operates safely and effectively, we will need volunteers to help on site. This temporary shelter will be located at the Lay Park gymnasium and will provide shelter only. We are working on obtaining cots, but if we’re unable to secure enough, people may have to bring their own bedding materials. This temporary shelter will not provide any services or food, only warm shelter space that is staffed by ACCGov employees and volunteers. The shelter will be open the following dates and times:
Friday, December 23 from 5:00pm to Saturday, December 24 at 8:00am
Saturday, December 24 from 5:00pm to Sunday, December 25 at 8:00am
Sunday, December 25 from 5:00pm to Monday, December 26 at 8:00am
Four volunteer shifts need to be filled by a minimum of 6 people for the shelter to open and remain open all of these designated days, and shifts are available for the following times:
Friday, December 23: 4:00pm to 8:00pm and 5:00pm to 12:00pm
Saturday, December 24: 12:01am to 8:00am and 4:00am to 9:00am
Saturday, December 24: 4:00pm to 8:00pm and 5:00pm to 12:00pm
Sunday, December 25: 12:01am to 8:00am and 4:00am to 9:00am
Sunday, December 25: 4:00pm to 8:00pm and 5:00pm to 12:00pm
Monday, December 26: 4:00pm to 8:00pm and 12:01am to 8:00am
