In Acts 17:26, Paul says God predetermined the places we would live, so we could reach out for him. Several of you have heard parts of this story and asked me about it.
Lee took me to the airport February 13 for my flight to Pakistan. We were there 3 hours before scheduled departure. On arrival, we were told checkin is now done on cell phones. I handed my phone to him, completely assured he would take care of it. To my surprise, he couldn’t get me checked in, although he made numerous attempts. Then he went to several airline employees for help. No success! I was waiting in wheelchair, praying. Eventually, he comes to me and says no one can get my phone to work and I’m not flying! The gate is closed! SHOCK! Suddenly, another airline employee comes to us, asks if we have a problem. YES! He tries on my phone. No success. Then he uses his phone. Success! He sends screenshot to me and I’m checked in. But the gate has already been closed. He calls upstairs, hold the flight. I was zipped through security, man pushing my wheelchair was literally running with me. This man is at the gate, makes sure I get my boarding pass. This flight, with over 300 passengers, was held 45 minutes for ME! This never happens. Why?
When I was visiting our church in Peshawar, I was introduced to his 94 year old father. Several had studied with him, but no conversion. So I learned some of his background. We have had some similar experiences, such as his preaching in villages there and I taught women in villages in Zimbabwe, I was much closer to his age, etc. I asked him if he was ready to meet God. He hesitated. I asked him to talk to the brothers there, to see if he has done everything he needs to do to be saved. He agreed. Three hours later, the evangelist came out and said heat the water for his baptism (hot water heaters are a first world luxury). This was God’s answer to his family’s prayers for his salvation. God chose to let us know that he worked HIS plan for this man’s salvation, and not our efforts. This is why my flight was held 45 minutes, so God could demonstrate in a powerful way his plan for this dear old man to be saved.
