Derek Elliott has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and has recently had major surgery. No visitors or meals at this time due to a strict diet and exposure. Please be praying for Derek, Gina and the family. Cards may be sent to 193 Strickland Lane, Jefferson, GA 30549.

Matt and Ashley Woods were baptized on Sunday, March 6th. Matt and Ashley have a one year old daughter (Alice). Matt’s mother, Sandy Woods, read the following scripture:
I have never stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you wisdom to see clearly and really understand who Christ is and all that he has done for you. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can see something of the future he has called you to share. I want you to realize that God has been made rich because we who are Christ’s have been given to him! I pray that you will begin to understand how incredibly great his power is to help those who believe him. Ephesians 1:17-19

 

Teresa and Dallas Howard want to thank all those who prayed, brought meals, visited, brought plants and sent cards during her surgery recovery. They were all really appreciated.

are invited to lunch at the Howards’ home on Sunday, March 13th about 30 minutes after service for lunch and to discuss the middle school ministry after Adam steps down in May. Invite is for all middle school parents and those who will be next school year.

La Table Bake Sale/Silent Auction to Benefit Family Promise
 
“La Table” is just around the corner.  We are excited about this year’s event and the addition of the Silent Auction/Bake Sale!  All proceeds from the baked good auction will go to Family Promise of Athens.

We are hoping to have a cake or pie from each host and support congregation to display for the Silent Auction at La Tabla.  Most congregations have some special bakers in their midst.  Are you a baker that would like to contribute your specialty to this benefit?

In an effort to make things as simple as possible for everyone, we will have cake containers and rounds available for the bakers in the host room at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church (after 5:00 pm) and also at the Day Center (8:30 am – 5:00 pm) beginning March 15.  

Cakes can be dropped off at the Athens Country Club the day before the event (Monday, March 21) from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.  Or if you need to make alternate arrangements for getting the cake or pie to the Country Club, please contact Patti or Kelly (see below contact information).  They are happy to help. 

We will also be having a “Pastor Bake Off” for the pastor’s cake that can raise the most money for Family Promise!  We have 3 pastors already ready for the challenge!  We would love to have more competition. If you are interested, please let us know. Nothing like a little friendly, competitive fundraising to add excitement to our event.

We hope this year’s La Table fundraiser for Family Promise is the most successful yet!  If you would like to be a  baker, please let us know via this email so that we have an idea of how many desserts we will have for the silent auction.

AMA BOARD OF DIRECTORS VACANCY

As a supporter and financial contributor to Ethiopia, the Athens Church of Christ is a member of the Africa Missions Association (AMA) and as such occupies two seats on the AMA Board of Directors; one seat being held by Lee Redd; the other seat is currently vacant.

If you are interested in representing our church and supporting the work in Africa with your voice and input, please contact Lee Redd at 470-331-1590 or leeredd59@gmail.com for information regarding responsibilities and time commitment.

Please contact Lee by end of day, Wednesday, March 9 so we can discuss and make a choice in time for the next Board meeting.

                                               A Time for Two

Join us for the Athens Church of Christ 2022 Marriage Retreat entitled “A Time For Two” held Friday and Saturday, March 18-19 at the beautiful Amicalola Falls Lodge and devote some time to your most valuable earthly relationship.

The retreat begins Friday evening at 7:30. There will be live music, dancing, and desserts. There will be two Saturday morning sessions with guest speakers Joseph and Lisa Washington and Randy and Theresa Scott from Gainesville, Florida. The Washingtons will be speaking to couples who have been married less than 25 years The Scotts will be speaking to couples married over 25 years.

What is included: Lodging for 1 night, breakfast and lunch on Saturday.
