Men’s Midweek
Tomorrow night – Wednesday, October 11 @ 7:00 PM
Mollie Mostert asks that we pray for the safety of the disciples in Pakistan as well as for her safety while she is there the next two and a half weeks.
Ed and Kellie Baxter are collecting clean blankets and small pillows for Street Love Ministries. This ministry serves the homeless in Athens. They will collect at a table at the church building this Sunday 10/15 and next Wednesday night 10/18. Thank you for any contributions!
God sets the lonely in families.
Psalm 68:6
As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
Psalm 103:13
In the children’s ministry this week, the lesson was about Ruth. The memory verse was from Ruth’s famous words quoted in Ruth 1:16, “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” The main point of the lesson was how God loves and cares for us. One way He does this is by giving us our families. As parents, God has chosen us to be our children’s mom or dad. Sometimes, we can get overwhelmed with such a task. But God CHOSE us for this. What a blessing to be chosen for such an important role by the Creator Himself! I hope you are encouraged by the article below about God choosing YOU as your child’s parent! (The article is written by a mother, but the things she shares apply to fathers, too.)

Father/Son Retreat – November 10-12, 2023
“Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakeable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. For our God is a devouring fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29
When God’s people first received God’s directives passed down to them by Moses, they heard The LORD calling them to see Him through a specific lens or viewpoint. The bible has often translated that view as ‘The Fear of The LORD,’ ‘Fear of God,’ ‘trembling and awe…’ The calling was for God’s people to learn to walk in a holy fear of Him and, naturally, to teach their children to do likewise.
For this year’s Father-Son Retreat at Camp Swamp our theme is “The Awe of God.” We will touch upon what the Fear of the Lord is, and what it’s not, and will point the fathers and sons to practical ways to walk in the Fear of the Lord. We will enjoy all the usual fun and bonding the Father-Son retreat has historically been filled with ! We look forward to awe-inspiring activities including lots of dodgeball, foosball and ping-pong tournaments, bonfires and s’mores, board games, football games and more!
The retreat is Friday-Sunday, November 10-12, 2023.
