May 30, 2023
Tomorrow evening, May 31, is Hospitality Wednesday.
Enjoy the time with each other!
Don’t forget: This Sunday, June 4, is Generosity Sunday!
Be on the lookout for a separate email laying out the plans for our giving.
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
Proverbs 1:8
The goal of our instruction for our children is so much more than just behavior modification. We desire more for them than to just be good kids who grow up to be good citizens. We want our children to understand and know God and His unfailing love for them, developing a faith all their own. The goal of the “Parents’ Corner” is to equip parents with resources to help on the parenting journey, realizing that you are not in this alone. Each week, there will be book or podcast recommendations, articles shared, and/or scriptures discussed from various sources. It is my goal that this will be a helpful resource for all parents and will spark discussions among our fellowship on meeting the needs of our children – emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically (heart, mind, soul, and strength).
If you have topics you would like to hear about, please email me at betty.roepe@gmail.com.
Having said all of that…This week, I would like to recommend a book that I found to be VERY helpful as a parent when my children were younger – elementary and middle school age:
Shepherding a Child’s Heart by Tedd Tripp
He talks about how to teach and train your child at a heart level, going beyond just behavior. I hope you will find this to be helpful for you, as well.
(Disclaimer: There are a couple of doctrinal things he mentions in the book that I don’t believe to be correct, but it doesn’t take away from the teaching about shepherding your child’s heart.)
Mark your calendars!
