From Leonard Patat: My mother, Alberta Patat, had knee surgery at Athens Piedmont on Monday. She came through the surgery fine. Prior to the surgery, the doctors expressed concern that her body may not have the strength to recover from the surgery. Please pray for her and for my family.

Lesson: You’ve Got the Power!
Scripture Text: John 20:1-18; Ephesians 1:19-20
Lesson Aim: To help children understand that God’s resurrection power is with us today.
Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.
Proverbs 1:5 (ESV)
Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
Proverbs 11:14 (ESV)
There is so much advice out there for parents – some good and some not so good. I am responsible for my own actions as a parent, so I must prayerfully consider what/who I am listening to. Getting advice from others is not only Biblical, but it saves me a lot of heartache helping me steer clear of making poor decisions. It helps me to see things from a different perspective than just my limited view. It can be helpful to talk to people who know me and know my children. When I have talked to people who were ahead of me in the parenting arena, I was always so encouraged because they could truly relate and could offer very practical advice. My boys definitely had a few mothers and fathers other than their dad and me! The Bible gives general principles about raising our children, but it is so important to get help in the practicals of every day living and growing. While getting specific advice about our parenting from a trusted friend is important, there are a plethora of books, podcasts, Instagram posts, etc., etc. that can give us some great advice. Listen as a dad shares in this short video about a bedtime routine with his kids. I remember bedtime was the time when my kids – especially when they were teenagers – were more reflective and willing to talk. Yeah, it might have just been them trying to stay up longer, but those were some precious times!
