In an effort to encourage the church and share her thoughts, our beloved sister and noted poet, Ms. Evelyn Rosser, wrote and wanted to share her latest poem. |
Soaring Above and Beyond
By Evelyn Crawford Rosser
The interloper crept in and struck like a thief in the night
High fevers, headaches, nausea, and unexplainable deaths its plight
America had been invaded by the Coronavirus
Leavening each citizen to the same status.
Over 300 million Americans deprived of life’s simple joys:
Earning a living, cheering for their favorite sports team,
Or a guy escorting his special girl-
Families dining in restaurants, tossing Frisbees in the park, hanging out at the mall,
Or vacationing at Disney World.
All lives interrupted physically
Yet, still connected spiritually.
Some cried.
Some denied.
Some strayed.
Some prayed.
Amid seeing loved ones and strangers dying every day,
America continues to grow stronger along the way.
Shedding fears and prejudices, coming together from
Different races, social classes, and religious sects
Outrunning the devil, -every man at his best.
Health care workers and first responders
Becoming soldiers for humanity,
Having inadequate protective gear and equipment
Will not deter them from destroying the enemy.
Every day citizens responding courageously
To what they do not understand
Becoming rainstorms, flooding acts of kindness as often as they can.
The elderly and sick and shut in receiving survival kits,
Strangers investing time and money
While putting their own safety at risk.
Covid-19 forced Americans to reconnect with what matters most
Still threatened daily but living with hope.
Led by wisdom fueled with faith and love as their bond
Americans will survive and soar above and beyond.
