The Northview Church will be hosting a workshop by Dave Pocta on Saturday, February 8th, from 2:00-4:00 PM. It is entitled “Toward a Deeper Spirituality.” This workshop is open to all and there is no cost to attend. The attached flyer includes a description of the workshop. |
Toward a Deeper Spirituality
As a young reform movement, our fellowship of churches has focused on a much needed active-practical spirituality. We have taught people how to be disciples of Jesus and called them to the Great Commission, “Go make disciples of the nations.” These methods have proven effective as hundreds of thousands have become Christians over the last forty years. Our spirituality favors the act of “doing.” Our core value system emphasizes outward-focus, obedience, and producing fruit. This narrow focus helped to facilitate dynamic church growth when we were younger when our lives were simpler but our churches are now faced with the same challenge the New Testament identifies in Hebrews 6:1, “Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity.” With the challenges and complexity of age we are becoming more aware that each of us needs a strong interior life. Trees that bear fruit must be deeply rooted, watered and fertilized.
During this workshop, “Toward a Deeper Spirituality,” on Saturday, February 8, David Pocta will address the need for us to individually develop a stronger interior life, to drink deeply from the living water, and to be inspired by followers of Jesus who have modeled such a life. David is in his third year of doctoral work, pursuing a PhD in Christian Contemporary Spirituality. His research centers around the interior life, wonder, mystery, and intimacy with God. Please join us for a time to learn and be inspired to walk closer to our God.
